Welcome to my Art Journal. You may not have heard of an Art Journal before and are wondering what’s it all about.
Well, an Art Journal is a way to express your creativity and to keep a visual record of your life.
Some people use it as a visual diary and create an entry in it every day. Phew, I tried that to start with but soon found it quite demanding. Also I didn’t want to put down any old rubbish just so I could say I had done my entry for the day. So now what I tend to do is take one of my journals with me when I go out, mostly for coffee over the weekend. If I can find a quite place I will have a draw or wait until I get home. I enjoy drawing outside and most people tend to leave you alone. It has become a lot more acceptable recently to be drawing or painting outside.
This is the inside front cover of my smaller Art Journal. Its always a good idea to put some contact details on the first page just in case you leave it some where or I falls out your bag. Once you start filling up the pages you soon realise how precious it is as a record of your thoughts and feelings.
This is a fairly recent entry from the 3rd of April 2015. Lore and I had gone out to Malvern for the day to see the Well Dressing Festival. The left hand page shows the view looking down the street towards Costa’s and on the right there is some information form the museum. By the way museums are a great place to take your sketch book or journal. There is always something to learn and loads of ideas to start your creativity off, plus most are free to get in. Bonus.
For me these two pages sum up the whole day and bring back all the feeling and thoughts we had while wondering round. The drawing becomes a hook for your mind to hang a record of the day on.
This is another entry from a weekend in August. We were fortunate to be given first class tickets on the steam train to Bridgnorth. A real treat.
An Art Journal doesn’t have to have realistic pictures in it. Really there are no rules because its your book and you can create it how ever you feel. I tend to think a lot in cartoony form so you’ll find quite a lot of pages will have my humorous take on the day.
Well that’s the introduction done. I will be posting more pages coming soon. If you have any questions on Art Journaling be sure to drop me an email and I will do my best to answer them. Remember, have fun and get creative.
